Save Your Tooth. End the Pain. Keep Your Smile.
Few words in dentistry carry more undeserved anxiety than "root canal." The truth is that modern root canal therapy is a routine, highly effective procedure that is far more comfortable than most patients expect — and far less uncomfortable than the toothache that makes it necessary in the first place. At Polished Smiles of Round Rock, we perform root canal therapy with precision, gentleness, and a genuine commitment to keeping you comfortable and informed every step of the way.
Dr. Daniel Im and Dr. Laura Maxey have extensive experience in root canal therapy and approach every case with the skill, patience, and care that this important tooth-saving procedure deserves. We proudly serve patients throughout Round Rock, Cedar Park, Pflugerville, Georgetown, Hutto, and the greater Austin area.

What is Root Canal Therapy?
Root canal therapy is a dental procedure used to treat infection or inflammation deep within the pulp of a tooth. The pulp is the soft tissue at the center of the tooth containing nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue. While the pulp plays an important role in tooth development, a fully mature tooth can survive perfectly well without it — making root canal therapy a highly effective way to save a tooth that would otherwise need to be extracted.
During root canal therapy, the infected or inflamed pulp tissue is carefully removed, the interior canals of the tooth are cleaned, shaped, and disinfected, and the space is filled and sealed with a biocompatible material to prevent reinfection. In most cases, a crown is then placed over the treated tooth to restore its strength and protect it from future damage.
The result is a tooth that is free of infection, free of pain, and fully functional — preserved in your mouth for years to come rather than lost to extraction.
What to Expect During Root Canal Therapy
When is Root Canal Therapy Needed?
- Deep tooth decay that has penetrated through the enamel and dentin and reached the pulp chamber
- A cracked or fractured tooth that has allowed bacteria to infiltrate the inner tooth structure
- Repeated dental procedures on the same tooth that have cumulatively stressed or compromised the pulp
- Dental trauma — a blow or injury to the tooth that damages the pulp even without visible external damage
- A deep cavity left untreated that has progressed over time to the point of pulp involvement
- An abscess — a pocket of infection that forms at the root tip when bacteria from the pulp spread into the surrounding bone
